Expert Witness

An expert witness is qualified to express expert opinions in a case if he or she possesses special skill, knowledge, training, experience or education in subject matter that is ordinarily beyond the knowledge of a layperson. Insurance claims and cases often require the input of expert witnesses on issues relating to the interpretation of the language of an insurance policy and also whether an insurance company, in considering a policyholder’s claim, has conducted itself in good faith or bad faith. An expert witness may be retained as a consulting expert or a testifying expert, or sometimes both.
